Ingredients:

• Gingili oil – 5 tbsp
• Mustard – 1 tsp
• Channa dal – 1 tbsp
• Dried manathakkali – 1 tbsp
• Dried red chillies – 2 to 3
• Asafoetida powder – as desired
• Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
• Curry leaves – 5 to 6 leaves
• Sambar powder- 1 tbsp
• Tamarind – medium Lemon size.
• Appalam – 4
• Salt as desired.

Method:

  1. Heat gingili oil in a pan.
  2. Soak tamarind in water extract the pulp.
  3. Splutter mustard, add dal, dried manathakkali, dried red chillies, asafoetida powder and turmeric powder, curry leaves and sambar powder and saute the mixture.
  4. Break each appalam into halves and add them to the above. Add tamarind water to the above, immediately.
  5. Let it boil for 5 – 10 mins
  6. Add 240 ml of water and salt boil for ten more mins till it becomes thick.
