Ingredients:

• 2 cups- Beaten Rice (aval)
• Small Lime size ball of Tamarind
• Salt – as per taste
• 1/4 tsp – Asafoetida
• 1/2 tsp – Turmeric powder
• Seasoning:
• 2 tsp – Oil
• 8- 10 – Curry leaves
• 3/4 – Broken Red Chillies
• 1 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• 1/2 tsp – Urad Dal

Method:

  1. Soak tamarind in 3/4 cup warm water for 10 minutes.
  2. Extract thick juice and discard the tamarind.
  3. Soak aval in tamarind extract for 10 minutes until it absorbs all the liquid and the flakes become soft, fluffy and separate.
  4. Heat oil in a wide pan.
  5. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves, asafoetida, red chillies, urud dal, turmeric powder.
  6. When mustard seeds crackle, add aval.
  7. Add salt as per taste.
  8. Gently toss everything together without mashing the aval.
  9. Saute for 2-3 minutes and serve it hot.
