Ingredients:
• 1 – large Brinjal
• 1/2 – chopped Onion
• 1/2 tsp – sambar powder
• 1/4 tsp – mustard
• 1/2 tsp – Urad Dal
• 1/4 tsp – Toor Dal
• 4 – dry chillies
• Turmeric – a pinch
• Salt – to taste
• 1/2 cup – Tamarind extract
• 1 tbsp – oil
• 4-5 – Curry leaves
Method:
- Cut brinjal into pieces and fry in 1 tsp of oil. Then pour tamarind water and boil with 1/2 tsp salt and a pinch turmeric powder
- Boil 1/4 cup toor dal
- In a pan heat little oil and fry a tsp channa dal, 2 tsp coriander, red chilli and 1 tbsp coconut
- Grind into a fine powder in a mixi
- Then add the powder and dal into boiled brinjal and pour enough water to get the required consistency
- Kathrikai Gothsu Method:
- Take one big brinjal and heat directly in the gas on all sides and peel off the skin
- Then mash the brinjal and pour it in a pan with tamarind extract
- Add 1/4 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp chilli powder, a pinch of jaggery and then boil it for 5- 10 mins
- And finally season it with mustard seeds
- Serve.
