Ingredients:

• 1 cup – Chana dal, washed and soaked for 1 hour
• 1 cup – Coconut Milk
• 1 cup – grated Coconut
• 1 tbsp – Lemon juice
• 1/4 tsp – crushed Ginger
• 1/2 tsp – Garlic paste
• 1 onion, chopped fine
• 3 tbsp – oil
• 2 green chillies, slit
• 4-5 Curry leaves
• Mix powders:
• 1/2 tsp – Red Chilli powder
• 1 tsp – Coriander seeds powder
• 1 tsp – Cumin seeds powder
• 1/4 tsp – Turmeric powder
• 1/4 tsp – Garam Masala

Method:

  1. Cook chana dal in 1.5 cups of water till tender; add more water if required.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and saute onion till transparent.
  3. Add ginger, garlic, curry leaves, and green chillies.
  4. Add mix powders.
  5. Saute till the oil separates.
  6. Add a cup of water. Bring to a boil.
  7. Add cooked dal and half of the grated coconut.
  8. Cook for 10 minutes, till the gravy is thick.
  9. Add coconut milk.
  10. Remove from fire when the required consistency is attained.
  11. Garnish with the remaining grated coconut and lemon juice.
