Ingredients:

• Bengal Gram dal – 1 cup
• Green chillies – 3, slit
• Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
• Oil (ground nut or mustard) – 2 tbsp
• Cumin seed – 1/2 tsp
• Dry Red Chillies – 2, broken into pieces
• Ginger – 1 tsp, minced
• Fresh Coconut – 2 tbsp, cut into small pieces
• Sugar – 1/2 tsp
• Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp
• Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp, chopped
• Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Wash the dal. Add about 2.5 cup of water, green chilli and turmeric.
  2. Pressure cook for 10 minutes. Cool the cooker and open it.
  3. Heat oil in a small fry pan. Add cumin seeds.
  4. When they splutter, add red chilli, ginger and coconut.

  6. Mix the dal well and add enough water to get the required consistency (like a very thick soup).
  7. Add salt, sugar and cumin powder.
  8. Simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  9. Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves, as an accompaniment to rice or chapatti.
