Ingredients:

• 1.5 cups – plain flour
• 1/2 cup – Milk
• 100 g – Butter
• 1.25 cups – Sugar
• 1 – Egg
• 1 cup – dates, pitted and chopped
• 1 cup – boiling water
• 1/2 cup – chopped Walnuts
• 1 tsp – baking soda
• 1 tsp – baking powder

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degree F.
  2. Add dates, baking soda and baking powder to boiling water, and let it cool.
  3. Sift the flour.
  4. Beat the egg.
  5. Cream butter and sugar.
  6. Add the egg to the butter and sugar mixture.
  7. To this, add flour and date mixture.
  8. Add milk and half the walnuts.
  9. Bake in a 20-cm round tin for 60 minutes.
  10. Remove and let it cool on a wire rack.
  11. Garnish the cake with the remaining walnuts.
