Gujarati dal is predominant food in every Gujarati household. It has sweet, sour and spicy taste. It is very healthy and Gujarati people have this dal in their everyday meal. To cook Gujarati Dal is very easy and quick. Enjoy this full of flavor dal with steamed rice, sabji and roti.

Ingredients

– 1/2 cup tuvar dal
– Water as required
– 1 teaspoon red chili powder
– 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
– 3/4 teaspoon cumin and coriander powder
– 1 big chopped tomato
– 1 chopped green chili
– 1/2 teaspoon ginger paste
– 1 tablespoon jeggery
– 1 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
– Salt to taste
– Fresh chopped coriander leaves, for garnish

For Tempering

– 1 tablespoon oil
– 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds
– 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
– 9-8 fenugreek seeds
– 1 bay leaf
– 1 dried red chili
– A pinch of asafoetida
– 6-7 curry leaves

How To Cook?

1. First, wash the tuvar dal under running water and pressure cook tuvar dal, salt along with water until the dal is soft.
2. When dal is cooked transfer the dal into a vessel and add 2 cups of water and blend it with hand blender.
3. Now, turn on the flame and put the vessel on it then add chopped tomato, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin and coriander powder, chopped green chili, ginger paste, jeggary, lemon juice and salt to it. Mix it well and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes.
4. Meanwhile, to make temper, heat the oil in a pan then add mustard seed, cumin seeds and fenugreek seeds when they start crackled at that time add bay leaf, dried red chili break into two piece and asafoetida then add curry leaves. The temper is ready.
5. Pour this temper into dal then simmer the dal again for 8-9 minutes.
6. Garnish this dal with fresh chopped coriander leaves.
7. Serve this mouthwatering dal with sabji, roti and steamed rice.
