Ingredients:
• 2 cups- water/vegetable stock
• 1/2 cup – red lentils (masoor dal), washed and cleaned well
• 1/4 cup – toasted Peanuts
• 2 tbsp – grated Jaggery
• 1 – 1.5 tbsp – Tamarind paste
• 1/4 tsp – Turmeric powder
• 2-3 – green chillies, sliced thinly
• salt
• To temper:
• 1 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• 1/8 tsp – asafetida
• 1 tsp – Cumin seeds
• 1/2 tsp – Fenugreek seeds
• few sprigs – Curry leaves and Cilantro
Method:
- Place the red lentils in a saucepan and cook it by bringing it to a boil in about 2 cups of water/vegetable stock.
- Once boiled, bring the heat down to medium heat, it should have turned yellow.
- Add turmeric, salt, tamarind, peanuts and jaggery.
- Stir well.
- Temper the ingredients given in the temper section along with chillies and pour it into the dal.
- Garnish with herbs and serve hot.
