Ingredients:

• 250 g – kala Channa
• To grind :
• 1 – whole Onion
• 4 to 5 – Garlic flakes
• 1/2″ – Ginger
• 2 to 3 – Cinnamon sticks
• 3 to 4 – Cloves
• 2 – Star anise
• 2 – brown Cardamom
• 1 – green/ white Cardamom
• To season :
• 1/4 tsp – Turmeric powder
• 1 tsp – Red Chilli powder
• Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Soak the kala channa overnight (optional).
  2. Boil it either in a cooker or a microwave cooker.
  3. Grind the onion, ginger and the garlic flakes coarsely.
  4. Do not make it a paste.
  5. Keep it aside.
  6. Next, take all the other spices and grind them together into a fine powder.
  7. Heat oil in a pan or a kadai and add the ground spices.
  8. Fry it for a few minutes.
  9. Add the turmeric and the chilli powder too.
  10. Now add the onion, ginger and garlic mix.
  11. Keep frying until you get the pleasant aroma.
  12. Finally add the boiled kala channa and cover it with a lid.
  13. Allow it to boil for a few minutes.
  14. It is now ready to serve.
