Ingredients:
• 3/4 cup – Toor Dal
• 2- Onion (chopped lengthwise)
• 2- Tomatoes (chopped )
• 2- Green chillies
• 6- Garlic pods (mashed)
• 1 tsp – Lemon Juice
• 2 tsp – Coriander leaves chopped
• For Tempering:
• 1/4 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• 1/4 tsp – Urad Dal
• 3 – Red Chillies
• 1/4 tsp – Cumin seeds
• 1/4 tsp – Asafetida powder
• 2 tsp oil.
Method:
- Wash the toor dal thoroughly and pressure cook with turmeric powder until three whistles.
- Heat oil in a kadai and splutter the mustard seeds, urad dal, red chillies, cumin seeds and asafoetida powder.
- Now add the finely chopped onion and saute until pink.
- Then add the tomato pieces and saute until they soften.
- Next, add the green chillies and mashed garlic pods and fry them for a while.
- Add water as per taste since the sambar should be watery.
- Now add the toor dal with salt and boil it. Simmer until the vegetables get cooked.
- Remove from the stove and add the lemon juice and the coriander leaves to the sambar.
- Serve hot with rice.
