Ingredients:

• Tamarind – size of a big Lime
• Prawn – 250 g (shelled and deveined)
• Button Mushroom – 200 g
• Oil – 1/2 cup
• Onion – 2 cups, chopped
• Chilli powder – 2 tsp or to taste
• Coriander powder – 1 tsp
• Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
• Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Soak the tamarind in 2 cups of hot water for 15 minutes and extract the juice.
  2. Sprinkle the prawns with 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder.
  3. Wash and drain after 10 minutes.
  4. Cut the mushrooms into quarters.
  5. Heat oil and fry the onions until light brown.
  6. Add the prawns and mushrooms. Sprinkle with salt and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes.
  7. Add chilli powder and coriander powder and fry for half a minute.
  8. Add 1/2 cup of tamarind juice and simmer for 5 minutes.
  9. Add the remaining tamarind juice and simmer until the gravy gets the consistency of thin cream.
  10. Serve with steamed rice, idli or dosa.
