Ingredients:

• Large Onion – 1
• Tomato – 1 big or 2 small
• Garlic – 3 or 4 pods
• Turmeric -1 tsp
• Green chilli – 6-7
• Tamarind – a small piece
• Salt to taste
• Oil – 5 tsp
• Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
• Split urad dhal – 1/2 tsp
• Asafoetida – 1 pinch
• Curry leaves – a few

Method:

  1. Cut the onions and the tomatoes.
  2. Heat 2 tsp of oil in a kadai and saute the onions, tomatoes, garlic, chillies until pink.
  3. Cool, and grind this with the turmeric, salt and tamarind. Add a little water to grind.
  4. Heat the remaining oil in the kadai and splutter the mustard seeds.
  5. Then add the urad dhal, asafoetida and curry leaves.
  6. Grind well.
  7. Now add the ground chutney to the kadai and cook for 5 mins.
  8. Served with hot with dosa or idli.
