Ingredients:

• Bottle Gourd – 2 cups, peeled and cut into 3 cm cubes
• Green chillies – 2
• Ginger – 1 cm slice
• Garlic – 4 flakes
• Coconut – 1 cup, grated
• Rice flour – 2 tsp
• Oil – 2 tbsp
• Cloves – 3
• Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
• Onion – 1/2 cup, finely chopped
• Chilli powder – 1 tsp
• Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
• Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Crush green chillies, ginger and garlic together.
  2. Grind coconut with rice flour to a smooth paste.
  3. Heat oil in a kadai. Add cloves and cumin seeds. Fry for a few seconds.
  4. Add onion and fry till light brown. Add chilli and turmeric powder.
  5. Add gourd pieces and salt. Cover and simmer till the vegetable is tender.
  6. Add the coconut paste and enough water to form a thick gravy.
  7. Simmer for 2-3 minutes and remove from fire.
