Ingredients:

• 1 cup – Chana dal
• 250 g – shelled and deveined small Prawns
• 1/4 tsp – Turmeric powder
• 1 tsp – ground Cumin seeds
• 1/4 tsp – pepper powder
• 1 tsp – Garam Masala
• 4 – Red Chillies
• 2 – Bay Leaves
• salt to taste

Method:

  1. Wash and soak dal in water for a couple of hours.
  2. Apply salt and turmeric powder on prawns and set aside for half an hour.
  3. Heat 4 tbsps. oil and put in the prawns.
  4. Cover tightly and cook till the prawns are dry, then keep on stirring till it turns a nice brown colour.
  5. Remove from fire and set aside.
  6. Cook the dal in the water in which it was soaked after adding a little turmeric powder till it is almost done.
  7. Put in the prawns and all the spices with the exception of bay leaves, chillies and garam masala.
  8. When the dal and the prawns are cooked, remove from fire.
  9. Heat 2 tbsps. oil and put in the bay leaves and chillies after pricking them in several places and fry nicely, pour over the prawns.
  10. Sprinkle garam masala on top.
  11. Cover and set aside for 5 mins. before serving.
