Ingredients:
• 1 cup – Chana dal
• 250 g – shelled and deveined small Prawns
• 1/4 tsp – Turmeric powder
• 1 tsp – ground Cumin seeds
• 1/4 tsp – pepper powder
• 1 tsp – Garam Masala
• 4 – Red Chillies
• 2 – Bay Leaves
• salt to taste
Method:
- Wash and soak dal in water for a couple of hours.
- Apply salt and turmeric powder on prawns and set aside for half an hour.
- Heat 4 tbsps. oil and put in the prawns.
- Cover tightly and cook till the prawns are dry, then keep on stirring till it turns a nice brown colour.
- Remove from fire and set aside.
- Cook the dal in the water in which it was soaked after adding a little turmeric powder till it is almost done.
- Put in the prawns and all the spices with the exception of bay leaves, chillies and garam masala.
- When the dal and the prawns are cooked, remove from fire.
- Heat 2 tbsps. oil and put in the bay leaves and chillies after pricking them in several places and fry nicely, pour over the prawns.
- Sprinkle garam masala on top.
- Cover and set aside for 5 mins. before serving.
