Ingredients:

• 2 cups – Rice
• 1 cup – toor dhal
• 5 – Cloves
• 1 – Cinnamon
• 5 – Cardamom
• 2 – finely sliced Onions
• 8 – small Tomatoes
• 4 – Green chillies slit into halves
• 3 sprigs – Mint leaves
• 2 tbsp – chopped coriander
• 2 tbsp – Ginger Garlic paste
• Salt to taste
• 1/4 cup – oil
• A few Curry leaves
• 3 cups – water
• A pinch of Turmeric powder
• Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Wash and cook toor dhal with a pinch of turmeric powder. Set aside.
  2. Don’t discard the cooked dhal water.
  3. Fry the onions, cloves, cinnamon and cardamom.
  4. When onions are golden, add slit green chillies, mint, curry leaves and 1 tbsp of the coriander leaves.
  5. Add salt and ginger garlic paste. Fry for 2 mins.
  6. Add the washed, drained rice and chopped tomatoes. Fry for a few minutes.
  7. Add the cooked dhal, mix well and add 3 cups of water. Add cooked dhal water.
  8. Cook for 8 to 10 mins till the rice is done.
  9. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
