Ingredients:

• Tamarind – 100 g
• Seedless Dates – 100 g
• Jaggery – 150 g
• Red Chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
• Fennel (saunf) powder – 1/2 tsp
• Cumins powder – 1 tsp
• Dry Ginger powder – 1/2 tsp
• Black salt – 1/2 tsp
• Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Soak tamarind in 2 cups of water and extract the juice.
  2. Chop the dates and grind to a smooth paste, using some of the tamarind extract.
  3. Add the dates to the remaining extract.
  4. Heat the extract in a pan and add jaggery. Cook stirring till jaggery is dissolved.
  5. Increase the heat and boil till the extract thickens.
  6. Remove from fire and stir in the other ingredients.
  7. Serve this sweet-sour chutney with samosas, kachori or pakodas.
