Ingredients:

• Spring onions – 1 bunch
• Onion – 1
• Tomato – 1
• Toor Dal – 1/2 cup
• Kulambu poddi (Sambar Powder) – 1/2 tsp
• Salt – 1 tsp
• Sugar – 1 pinch
• Kadugu (mustard) – 1/2 tsp
• Urud dal – 1/2 tsp
• Red Chilli – 1

Method:

  1. Boil tuvar dal with 2 cups of water in a cooker (till you hear two whistles).
  2. After it lets out steam, open the cooker and add chopped spring onions, chopped onion, sliced tomato, salt, sugar, kulambu podi. Close lid and boil till you hear 1 more whistle.
  3. Open the cooker after it lets out steam. Now pour 3 tsps oil in a kadai and add kadugu, urud dal and red chilli.
  4. Add this to the spring onion kootu and mix.
  5. If it is too thick, add some water.
  6. Eat hot, mixed with rice.
