Ingredients:
• 2 cup – water melon white rinds, chopped
• 1/2 cup – Banana blossom, chopped and soaked in buttermilk
• 1/4 cup – moong dal
• 1/2 cup – Channa dal
• 1 – onion, chopped
• 2 – green chillies, slit
• 1/4 tsp – Turmeric powder
• A few – Curry leaves
• 1 tsp each – mustard seeds, urad dal, Cumin seeds
• 1/4 tsp – Asafoetida powder
• Coriander leaves – chopped
• To grind:
• 1 tbsp – Channa dal
• 2 tbsp – Coriander seeds
• 1/4 tsp- Fenugreek seeds
• 3 – dry Red Chillies
• 2 tbsp – grated Coconut
Method:
- Dry roast the channa dal, coriander seeds, fenugreek seeds, grated coconut and dry red chillies and grind them. Keep aside.
- Heat enough oil in a pressure cooker, splutter the mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds and asafoetida powder.
- Add the chopped onions and slit green chillies, saute until the onions turn translucent.
- Now add the watermelon white rinds, banana blossom (strain the buttermilk), salt and turmeric powder, and saute for a few minutes.
- Add the washed dals and enough water. Pressure cook up to 3 whistles.
- Once the steam gets released, add the spice powder as per need and curry leaves. Bring everything to a boil and turn off the stove. Garnish the coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or rotis.
