Ingredients:

• 1.5 cups – watermelon, white rind chopped
• 1/4 cup – black urad dal, soaked
• 1/4 cup – toor dal, soaked
• 1- onion, chopped
• 1 – tomato, chopped
• 1/4 tsp – Turmeric powder
• Salt to taste
• Oil
• 1 tsp – mustard seeds, Urad Dal and Cumin seeds
• 3 – dry Red Chillies
• A few – Curry leaves
• 1/4 tsp – Asafoetida powder
• Coriander leaves – a few sprigs
• To Grind:
• 2 tbsp – grated Coconut
• 3 – Green chillies
• 1 tsp – Cumin seeds
• 1 tsp – peppercorns

Method:

  1. Grind coconut, green chillies, cumin seeds and pepper to a fine paste
  2. Heat a tsp of oil, add the onions, tomatoes and saute until the onions turn translucent.
  3. Add watermelon pieces, and saute until the vegetables are half done
  4. Now add toor dal, black urad dal, turmeric powder and salt to the vegetables.
  5. Add enough water and pressure cook for 3 whistles
  6. Heat oil, fry the mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds along with asafoetida powder and curry leaves and keep aside.
  7. Once the pressure subsides add tempered spices, ground paste and cook for few minutes, turn off the stove.
  8. Add the coriander leaves and serve
