Ingredients:
• 1.5 cups – watermelon, white rind chopped
• 1/4 cup – black urad dal, soaked
• 1/4 cup – toor dal, soaked
• 1- onion, chopped
• 1 – tomato, chopped
• 1/4 tsp – Turmeric powder
• Salt to taste
• Oil
• 1 tsp – mustard seeds, Urad Dal and Cumin seeds
• 3 – dry Red Chillies
• A few – Curry leaves
• 1/4 tsp – Asafoetida powder
• Coriander leaves – a few sprigs
• To Grind:
• 2 tbsp – grated Coconut
• 3 – Green chillies
• 1 tsp – Cumin seeds
• 1 tsp – peppercorns
Method:
- Grind coconut, green chillies, cumin seeds and pepper to a fine paste
- Heat a tsp of oil, add the onions, tomatoes and saute until the onions turn translucent.
- Add watermelon pieces, and saute until the vegetables are half done
- Now add toor dal, black urad dal, turmeric powder and salt to the vegetables.
- Add enough water and pressure cook for 3 whistles
- Heat oil, fry the mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds along with asafoetida powder and curry leaves and keep aside.
- Once the pressure subsides add tempered spices, ground paste and cook for few minutes, turn off the stove.
- Add the coriander leaves and serve
