Ingredients:
• 2 cups – whole Wheat grains
• 1 cup – Tamarind extract
• 1 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• 1/2 tsp – Urad Dal
• 1 tsp – Channa dal
• 1/2 tsp – Asafoetida powder
• 1/4 tsp – Turmeric powder
• 3 – dry Red Chillies
• Few – Curry leaves
• 4 tbsp – gingili oil
• Few – Peanuts
• Salt – to taste
• To grind:
• 1 tsp – Coriander seeds
• 1/4 tsp – Fenugreek seeds
• 2 – dry Red Chillies
Method:
- Dry roast the ingredients listed under ‘To grind’ and finely powder; keep aside.
- Heat the gingili oil and fry the mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dal, asafoetida powder and dry red chillies until they turn brown.
- Add the peanuts and turmeric powder, and fry until the peanuts are brown.
- Add the tamarind extract, curry leaves and with salt, and bring to a boil.
- Cook until the oil separates and remove from heat.
- Boil the whole wheat grains in salted water until the grains turns soft.
- Drain the excess water.
- Spread the cooked whole wheat in a flat plate, add tamarind paste and spice powder as per your taste, and mix well.
- Add salt if required.
- Let the pulihora sit for at least an hour before serving.
