Ingredients:
• Bengal Gram dal – 1 cup
• Ghee – 2 tbsp
• Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
• Cardamom – 4
• Cinnamon – 5cm piece
• Bay Leaves – 2
• Red Chillies – 2, broken into halves
• Coconut – 1/2 cup, finely chopped pieces
• Chilli powder – 1 tsp
• Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
• Cumin powder – 1 tsp
• Sugar – 1 tsp
• Salt to taste
Method:
- Cook dal with 4 to 5 cups of water till soft.
- Heat ghee in a small pan and season with cumin seeds, cardamom, cinnamon, and bay leaves.
- Add red chillies and coconut pieces.
- Fry till coconut is light brown.
- Lower the flame, add all the powders, and add this mixture to the dal.
- Add salt, sugar, and water if needed.
- Simmer for 5 minutes and switch off the flame.
