Puran Poli is very popular sweet dish of Maharashtra which is specially made during Ganesh Chaturthi and other festivals. In Maharashtra and other part of India, Puran Poli, Motichur Ladoo, Mawa Modak are made during the Ganesh festival. Puran poli is flat bread which is stuffed with chana dal and jaggery. Puran Poli is very mouthwatering and delicious sweet dish. Praise the lord Ganesha with puran poli on the last day of the vinayak Festival.

Ingredients

– 1 cup maida (flour)
– Ghee or oil for frying
– Salt to taste
– 2 tablespoon melted ghee
– 1 cup Warm water
– 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
For Filling

– 1 cup chana dal
– 1 cup jiggery (grated)
– 1 tablespoon cardamom powder
– 1 tablespoon ghee

How To Make?

To prepare poli dough

1. Take a bowl and add maida, salt, and turmeric powder.
2. Then add ghee and warm water to it and mix it well then knead it till it becomes smooth dough. Ensure that the dough becomes soft otherwise it will help you to make a soft puran poli.
3. if the dough is hard then add some water and again knead it to make it soft.
4. Now, pour some oil on it and cover and keep it aside for 30 minutes.
To prepare puran (Stuffings)

1. Rinse the chana dal in a fresh water and soak it for 1 hour and the remove extra water.
2. After this, in a pressure cooker, add 4-5 cups of water and pressure cook the chana dal until its completed cooked.
3. When the pressure settles down, strain the cooked dal. Check that the dal strained properly or not. If not, then again cooked it for 1 whistle.
4. Now, in a frying pan, heat the ghee and add cardamom powder and jiggery and saut? it for 2-3 seconds. Then add chana dal and mix it well and cook the mixture on LOW flame till it becomes dry. Keep stirring in between.
5. Remove the pan from the flame and let the mixture cool. Keep it aside.

To Make Puran Poli

1. Now, make small size balls from the dough and roll it on the rolling board which we used to make phulka roti.
2. Now, fill the mixture in the rolled dough and fill it completely. Now, bring the dough edges toward the center and joint all the edges.
3. Sprinkle some flour on the dough and again roll it.
4. Now, again make a medium sized puran poli from the mixture filled dough and put it on the hot griddle over LOW flame apply some ghee and fry it from both side until it becomes golden brown in color.
5. When you see brown dots on the puran polis remove it from the griddle.
6. Repeat the same procedure for all the remaining polis.
7. Serve the puran poli with melted ghee. You can also store puran poli for 2-3 days.
