Ingredients:

• 2 cups – Rice flour
• 2 tsp – Urad Dal flour
• 2 tsp – melted Butter
• Approx. 1/4 to 1/2 tsp – Asafoetida powder
• Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Adding water little by little, form a stiff dough.
  2. Two ways to make murukkus using the murukku maker:
  3. Using 1 star attachment:
  4. Take the 1 star attachment and fix it to the maker.
  5. Lay a damp cloth or plastic sheet lightly brushed with oil/butter on the counter.
  6. Take a small amount of dough and place it inside the maker.
  7. Press the dough on to the plastic sheet/cloth.
  8. Slightly rotate the maker until you make a circle.
  9. You can make as many spirals as you please.
  10. Remove the piped murukku from the plastic to your hands and then drop it into the hot oil.
  11. Using 3 star attachment:
  12. Repeat the same process as mentioned for 1 star – but you won’t get spirals to form a circle.
  13. Make sure you spread it wide on the plastic and drop it in the oil.
  14. Press it until a sufficient amount has dropped into the oil and break off the rest of the dough.
  15. Drain them on paper towels.
  16. Let them cool and store in air tight containers.
