Ingredients:

• 1 cup – soaked and cooked black eyed beans
• 2 cups – long grain Rice (soaked for 1/2 an hour)
• 4 tbsp – oil
• Spices:
• 1 – Bay Leaf
• 6 – Cardamoms
• 6 – Cloves
• 3 inch – thick piece of Cinnamon
• 1/4 tsp – Caraway seeds
• 1 – nut meg
• 1 – strand Mace
• 1 – star flower
• Green masala
• 1 cup – tightly packed Coriander leaves
• 1 inch – Ginger
• 4 Cloves – Garlic
• 4 – Green chillies
• 1 – onion, cubed
• 3 inch piece – Cinnamon
• 10 – Cloves
• Salt as per taste

Method:

  1. Grind the green masala ingredients to smooth paste.
  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and saute the spices for 2 mins, add green masala and fry for 3 mins.
  3. Add the beans, saute for a while and add 1.5 cups of water and allow it cook on a medium flame. This takes about 30 mins
  4. To this, add 3 cups of water, bring the water to a boil, then add the rice, salt, mix well and pressure cook on a low flame for 1 whistle.
