• 1 large onion, chopped
• 1 tbsp. Sunflower oil
• 450 gms. minced Meat
• 50 gms. fresh white breadcrumbs
• Salt and pepper
• 1 tbsp. chopped Parsley
• 1 Egg
• For the sauce:400 gms. tomatoes, peeled
• 1 tbsp. Tomato puree
• 1 tsp. Sugar
• Salt
• Freshly ground black pepper
• 1 level tsp. fresh Basil


  1. Put the onion into a large but fairly shallow microwave proof dish and mix well. Cook on full power for 8 mins, stirring once during cooking.
  2. Put the minced meat, breadcrumbs, seasoning, parsley and beaten egg into a mixing bowl. Mix together until blended.
  3. Divide the mixture into 12 pieces and with lightly floured hands, roll into balls.
  4. Arrange the meatballs on top of the onion and cook on full power for 2.5 mins. Turn meatballs over and re-arrange them cook for a further 2-5 mins. Re-arrange again.
  5. Blend the tomatoes with sugar, seasoning and basil. Blend until smooth.
  6. Pour the sauce over the meatballs mixing the sauce with the meatballs and the onion.
  7. Cover the dish with pierced cling film or a lid and cook on full power for 10 minutes.
  8. Stir and leave to stand for 3 minutes
  9. Serve with buttered noodles and green salad.
