Ingredients:

• 2 cups – moong dal
• 1 Bay Leaf
• 1/2 tsp Turmeric
• 2 tsp chilli powder
• 1/2 tsp Garam Masala
• 1.5 tsp Mango powder
• Salt to taste
• 1/2 cup sesame seeds
• 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
• A pinch of Asafoetida
• 3 tsp coriander powder
• 1 tsp Sugar
• Ghee as required

Method:

  1. Soak the dal for 1/2 an hour.
  2. Heat a kerahi and add 1 tbsp – ghee.
  3. Fry cumin seeds, a pinch of asafoetida, turmeric, chilli and coriander powders, sesame seeds and bay leaf.
  4. Cook till just brown.
  5. Add the soaked, drained dal and add double the amount of water.
  6. When the dal is cooked and water is dried, add mango powder, sugar and garam masala and salt.
  7. Add one cup of water and let the mixture cook evenly.
