 
            Ingredients:
  • 1 2/3 cups – flour 
 • 1/2 cup – shortening 
 • 1 cup – Sugar 
 • 1 cup – chopped Dates 
 • 1/2 – chopped Walnuts 
 • 1 – Egg 
 • 1 tsp – boiling water 
 • 1 tsp – vanilla essence 
 • 1 tsp – soda 
 • 1/4 tsp – salt 
Method:
- Stir shortening to soften.
- Add sugar and cream thoroughly.
- Add egg and vanilla essence and beat well.
- Sieve flour, soda and salt.
- Add dates to the water and cook.
- Add sieved ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with date mixture, beating after each addition. Add walnuts.
- Bake in paper-lined 9x9x2 inch pan at 350 degrees F for about 30-40 mins.
