Ingredients:

• 5 – Potato
• 1.5 cup – gram flour
• 1/4 cup – Rice flour
• 1/2 tsp – Red Chilli powder
• Salt to taste
• 1 tsp – pepper
• Oil for frying
• 1 tbsp – Butter
• 1/4 tsp – Asafoetida

Method:

  1. Pressure cook the potatoes, remove the skin, mash and keep aside.
  2. Take the gram flour and rice flour in a big bowl and mix well.
  3. Grind the pepper to a coarse powder and add it to the flour along with salt, red chilli powder and asafoetida and mix well.
  4. Add the mashed potatoes to the flour and mix well.
  5. Knead the flour to make a smooth and stiff dough
  6. Heat oil in a pan, grease the thenkuzhal press with oil and press 1 handful of karasev dough to the hot oil.
  7. Fry the karasev on both the sides in a medium flame till it becomes crispy.
  8. Remove the fried karasev and place it in a strainer or a paper towel to drain the excess oil. Serve.
