Ingredients:
• 4 – Tomatoes
• Tamarind, a small piece
• 1 tsp – salt
• 1 tsp – Red Chilli powder
• For seasoning:
• 1 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• Asafoetida, a pinch
• Oil for frying
Method:
- Add the tomatoes in boiled water and cover with a lid. After 1 hour take out the tomatoes and peel the skin.
- Grind the tomatoes along with red chilli powder, salt, tamarind in a mixer to a fine paste.
- Heat oil in a pan, and add mustard seeds once the oil is hot.
- When the mustard seeds start to crackle, add the ground paste and fry over a low flame.
- When the mixture thickens and starts separating from the oil, remove from the flame.
- Tomato thokku is ready to be served with hot chapattis or curd rice.
