Ingredients:

• 1 cup – basmati Rice
• 2 – onions, medium sized, sliced
• 2 – tomatoes, chopped finely
• 1.5 tsp – Red Chilli powder (or depending on your taste)
• 1 inch – Cinnamon
• 3 – Cloves
• 2 – Bay Leaves
• 1 whole – black Cardamom
• 1 tsp – Ginger Garlic paste
• 1 small cup – Green peas (optional)
• 1/4 bunch – Cilantro or coriander leaves, chopped fine.

Method:

  1. Heat oil in a pan or a pressure cooker.
  2. Season with bay leaves, cloves, cinnamon and cardamom.
  3. When the cloves pop, put in the sliced onions and fry till light brown.
  4. Add the chopped tomatoes and fry well till the tomatoes are soft.
  5. Put in the ginger garlic paste and the red chilli powder and fry well.
  6. Add the washed rice, green peas (optional), cilantro, salt to taste and the required amount of water. Mix well and allow it to cook till the rice is done.
  7. Serve hot with onion, tomato and cucumber raitha.
