
Ingredients:
• 1.5 cups – breadcrumbs
• 1/2 pint Milk
• 1 Egg beaten
• 1 tbsp. – Sugar
• 8 tbsp. – jam
• a pinch of Nutmeg
• custard sauce to serve
• Ingredients for the custard sauce:
• 2 eggs
• 1/2 pint Milk
• 1 dessertspoon Sugar
• A few drops of vanilla essence
Method:
- Combine milk, sugar and egg, and beat well.
- Butter a pie dish and put a layer of breadcrumbs at the bottom. Spread with a layer of jam. Repeat until the breadcrumbs and jam are used up.
- Pour the milk over and allow to stand for 1/2 an hour. Sprinkle nutmeg.
- Bake in a moderate oven for 3/4 hour.
- Serve with custard sauce.
- Custard sauce:
- Boil milk. Beat eggs and sugar together and pour the boiling milk over the mixture, stirring all the time.
- Return to the saucepan and stir until the mixture thickens. Serve.
