Ingredients:
• Ridge gourd – 1
• 1 tsp – Mustard Seeds (rai)
• Channa dal – 2 tbsp
• Urad Dal – 2 tbsp
• Green chillies – 4 to 5
• Ginger
• Coriander leaves – few
• Curry leaves – few
• Grated fresh Coconut – 1 tbsp
• Tamarind – a small piece
• Salt – to taste
• Oil – 2 tbsp
Method:
- Remove the hard ridges of the ridge gourd and cut it into 1 inch pieces.
- Heat oil, add mustard seeds and let it splutter.
- Add channa dal, urad dal and let them brown a little.
- Add slit green chillies, ginger, the curry and coriander leaves and the cut pieces of the gourd and let it cook till the vegetable softens.
- Cool the mixture, add coconut, salt, tamarind and grind to a paste.
- This chutney goes well with rice, chapathi, dosas, idlis and pakoras.
