Ingredients:

• Spring onions – 1 bunch
• Tomatoes, finely chopped – 1/2 cup
• Moong dhal – 1 cup
• Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
• Chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
• Garam Masala – 1/4 tsp
• Salt to taste
• Oil as required

Method:

  1. Soak the moong dal for an hour.
  2. Cut the spring onions into small round pieces.
  3. While cutting make sure you keep the bottom part i.e. the thick onion part separate from the leafy part.
  4. Heat the tawa with a little oil and put the cumin seeds.
  5. Add the onions alone and fry them for 5 mins.
  6. Add the chopped tomatoes and fry them.
  7. Add the chopped leaves of the spring onions and fry them for 3 mins.
  8. Add the salt and chilli powder too.
  9. Add the soaked moong dal to the tawa. Let it cook along with the spring onions until tender.
  10. Add the garam masala powder and simmer.
  11. Close the tava with a lid for 5 mins.
  12. Remove from heat.
  13. This dal is very simple to make and is good for health too.
  14. It can served with phulkas, chapattis and rice.
