Ingredients:

• 1 cup – yellow moong dal
• 1 cup – Lauki (peeled and grated)
• 1 pinch – Turmeric powder
• 1 pinch – Asafoetida
• 1 tbsp – Ghee
• 1/2 tsp – Cumin seeds
• 1/2 tsp – mustard
• 2 – green chillies, slit
• Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Wash the yellow moong dal and keep aside.
  2. Take a broad steel/non-stick container and put it on the stove.
  3. Put the yellow moong dal into the container.
  4. Add 4 cups of water and cook the yellow moong dal for 10 minutes.
  5. Now, add grated lauki to it and cook for another 5 minutes.
  6. Now, mash nicely these cooked items with a masher.
  7. Add turmeric powder, salt and stir well.
  8. Cover and cook for 2 minutes.
  9. For tempering:
  10. Heat ghee in a small pan; add mustard, cumin and asafetida and slit green chillies.
  11. Add tempering to the dal.
  12. Serve with rice/roti.
