Ingredients:

• 2 – medium sized Ridge gourd
• 1 cup – Chana dal
• 1/2 tsp – Turmeric powder
• 1 tbsp – fresh grated Coconut
• 1 – medium sized Onion
• Salt
• For Seasoning:
• 1 tsp -mustard and Urad Dal
• A pinch of Asafoetida
• A sprig – Curry leaves

Method:

  1. Peel the skin and wash the ridge gourd. Cut them into small cubes. Pressure cook chana dal with a little water and turmeric powder.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seed, when it stops spluttering add urad dal, followed by asafoetida and curry leaves. Saute for a min.
  3. Add chopped onions and fry them until they turn translucent. Now add the cubed ridge gourd, saute it.
  4. When the ridge gourd gets cooked add the chana along with salt and mix them gently.
  5. Finally add the grated coconut and remove from heat.
  6. Delicious and nutritious ridge gourd with chana dal is ready to be served.
