Ingredients:

• Small Onions – 15 to 20
• Sambar Powder – 1 tbsp
• Jaggery – a little
• Tamarind extract
• Salt – to taste
• Asafoetida – a pinch
• Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
• Oil – 2 tsp
• Red Chilli – 1
• Kadi Patha – a few

Method:

  1. Soak the small onions in water for a couple of hours. Peel them and cut them into four halves.
  2. Take oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add the kadi patha, asafoetida, red chilli and the onions and fry them.
  3. After 2 minutes, add the tamarind extract, jaggery, salt and sambar powder and allow it to boil.
  4. Once the boiling sound stops, it is ready to serve.
  5. This is good with rice and papad.
