Ingredients:

• 1/2 cup – roasted peanut, pounded finely
• 1- onion, chopped finely
• 2 tbsp – Sugar
• 1 tbsp – Tamarind pulp (lemon juice)
• 7 – dry red chillies, pounded coarsely
• 1/4 tbsp – Vinegar
• 2 – Garlic cloves, crushed
• 1 tsp – shrimp paste (optional)
• 1/4 cup – vegetable oil
• 1 cup – water
• Salt as per taste.

Method:

  1. Mix tamarind pulp and water in a bowl and keep it aside.
  2. Make fine paste of red chillies, onion, garlic and shrimp paste.
  3. Heat oil in a pan.
  4. Add the paste in it till an aroma arises.
  5. Add pounded peanuts, sugar, vinegar and salt.
  6. Let it simmer for a minute.
  7. Add the tamarind-water mixture.
  8. Let it boil for 10 minutes, till the tamarind gets blended well with water.
  9. Can be used as salad or for chicken satay /meat satay.
