Ingredients:

• Moongdal- 1 cup
• Carrots , finely chopped- 4
• Fresh Coconut (cut into small pieces)-1 cup
• Green chillies- 5
• Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
• Turmeric- a pinch
• Curry leaves -10
• Finely Chopped Coriander (For garnishing purpose)
• Salt to taste
• For Seasoning:-
• Oil -1 tbsp
• Mustards seeds -1tsp
• Asafoetida -1/3 tsp

Method:

  1. Boil moongdal and carrots together adding turmeric, salt and curry leaves till they are soft.
  2. Meanwhile, grind fresh coconut pieces, jeera, green chillies. Add this ground paste to the dal and boil it for some more time till the dal is done. Add salt to taste.
  3. For tadka, boil oil, add mustard seeds. Once it splutters, add asafoetida. Finally, add curry leaves and finely chopped coriander. Pour over cooked dal.
  4. Serve hot with Plain rice, Poori or Chapati.
