
Ingredients:
• Tamarind – 1 Lemon size
• Oil – 2 tbsp
• Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
• Black gram dal – 2 tsp
• Garlic – 8 cloves, peeled and slightly crushed
• Onion – 1/2 cup, chopped
• Chilli powder – 1 tsp
• Sambar powder – 2 tsp
• Mushrooms – 200 gm, quartered
• Fresh or canned Bamboo shoots – 1 cup, cut into 4 cm pieces
• Salt to taste
Method:
- Soak tamarind in 2 cups of water and extract the juice.
- Heat the oil in a kadai. Add mustard.
- When it splutters, add the dal.
- When the dal begins to brown, add garlic and fry well till fragrant.
- Add onion and fry till they are golden brown.
- Add chilli and sambar powders and the tamarind extract.
- Simmer without covering for five minutes.
- Add mushrooms, bamboo shoots and salt.
- Simmer covered for five more minutes.
- Serve.
