Ingredients:

• 200 gms – tender yam, peeled, cubed
• 1/2 cup – coconut, grated
• 1 tsp – chilli powder
• 1/2 tsp – Turmeric powder
• 1/2 tsp – Cumin seeds
• 1/4 tsp – Urad Dal
• 1/4 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• 1 tbsp – oil
• 1 tbsp – grated Coconut for garnish
• pepper powder to taste
• salt to taste

Method:

  1. Cut yam, soak it in salted water in which half of the turmeric has been added.
  2. Soak for half an hour, drain and add to 1.5 cups of fresh water.
  3. Add coconut and the remaining turmeric, boil it till cubes become soft.
  4. Add chilly powder, salt, pepper and curry leaves.
  5. Heat oil in a small pan, add seeds, dal and allow it to splutter.
  6. Add it to the vegetables, stir it and pour it into a serving dish.
  7. Garnish with grated coconut.
  8. Serve hot with rice or chapathi.
