Ingredients:

• 2 – Fried appalam
• 1 tbsp – Tamarind paste
• 1 tbsp – Sambar powder
• 2 cups – Water
• 1 tbsp – Bengal Gram dal
• A pinch of Asafoetida
• A pinch of Turmeric
• Salt to taste
• 1 tbsp – Oil

Method:

  1. Heat oil in a kadai.
  2. Add mustard and allow it to splutter.
  3. Add the bengal gram dal, asafoetida and turmeric powder.
  4. Break the appalam into small pieces and add to it.
  5. Add the tamarind paste, sambar powder and the water and cook for 3 minutes.
  6. Add the required amount of salt.
  7. Serve hot with rice.
