Ingredients:

• 1.5 lb – bottle gourd, finely chopped using a vegetable grater
• 1 – fish head, preferably Rohu, cut into half
• 1 – medium-sized onion, finely chopped
• 1 tsp – Cumin seeds
• 1 tbsp – Turmeric powder
• salt to taste
• Oil as required
• a few coriander leaves, finely chopped

Method:

  1. Marinade the fish head with salt and a pinch of turmeric and keep aside.
  2. In the meantime, chop the bottle gourd into thin horizontal slits breadthwise using a vegetable grater.
  3. Finely chop the onion.
  4. In a shallow non-stick skillet, fry the fish head to light golden brown colour on both sides and keep aside.
  5. Heat a tbsp of oil in a utensil and add the cumin seeds.
  6. Add the chopped onion and the fish head and fry well for 2-3 minutes. (Break the Fish head into pieces while frying).
  7. Add the chopped bottle gourd, turmeric powder and salt and mix well. Cover and cook on low heat until the fish is fully cooked.
  8. Add the chopped coriander leaves, mix well and remove from the flame.
  9. Enjoy with rice or chappati.
