Ingredients:

• brown Channa – 1 cup
• fresh jack fruit seeds 8 to 10
• oil – 3 tbsp
• Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
• dry Red Chillies – 3 to 4, broken into pieces
• asafetida – 1/2 tsp
• Jaggery – 2 tsp
• grated Coconut – 1/2 cup
• salt to taste

Method:

  1. Soak Chana in water overnight.
  2. Drain and cover with fresh water.
  3. Add 1 tsp salt and pressure cook for 15 minutes.
  4. Drain and reserve the liquid.
  5. Peel away the thin white skin of jack seeds and cut each seed into two pieces.
  6. Heat oil in a Kadai.
  7. Add mustard seeds.
  8. When they splutter, add red chillies and asafetida.
  9. After few seconds, add the jack fruit seeds.
  10. Add 1 cup of reserved Chana liquid.
  11. Cover and simmer till the seeds are soft.
  12. Add Chana, salt and jaggery.
  13. Simmer till all the liquid is evaporated.
  14. Add grated coconut and mix well.
