
Ingredients:
• 250gm – yellow moong dal
• 5 tbsp – oil
• 1 – big Onion (finely chopped)
• 2 – medium-sized Tomatoes (finely chopped)
• 5 – Green chillies (finely chopped)
• 1.5-inch piece – Ginger (crushed)
• 6 to 8 – fresh Curry leaves
• 1/2 tsp – Turmeric powder
• a handful of Coriander leaves (finely chopped)
• 4 cups – water
• salt to taste
Method:
- Wash and soak the dal in 4 cups of water for 30 to 40 minutes.
- Heat oil in a heavy bottomed vessel.
- Add onions, green chillies, and ginger and saute on a low flame till the onions are a nice golden brown.
- Add the dal along with water, curry leaves, salt, and turmeric powder.
- Cook the dal on a low flame.
- After the dal is three-fourth done, add tomatoes. Continue cooking till the dal is done and is a little thick in consistency.
- Remove from gas and lightly churn the dal.
- Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with brown rice or roti and any fried sabzi.
