Ingredients:

• Garlic – 20 to 25 Cloves
• Onion – 1 (medium)
• Tur Dal – 1/2 cup
• Sambar powder – 1 to 1.5 tbsp
• Turmeric powder – A pinch
• Oil – 6 tbsp
• Mustard – 1/2 tbsp
• Water – 1 cup
• Curry leaves – A few
• Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Peel the garlic cloves and chop into small pieces. Chop the onion into fine pieces.
  2. Pressure cook dal and keep aside.
  3. In a frying pan, add five tbsp of oil and heat.
  4. Then add the chopped onions and garlic and fry till onion turns light brown.
  5. Pour water into it and add sambar powder, turmeric powder, salt and let the onion and garlic cook for a while.
  6. After the garlic gets cooked well, add dal and let it cook for sometime. Then remove from fire.
  7. Heat a tbsp of oil and add mustard for garnishing and then the curry leaves. Transfer this into the cooked garlic kuzhambu after the mustard splutters.
  8. Serve with rice.
