Ingredients:

• shelled Green peas – 3 cup
• Tamarind size of a Walnut
• black gram (Urad) Dal – 1 tbsp
• Bengal (Channa) Dal – 1 tbsp
• Curry leaves few
• Mustard Seeds – 1/2 tsp
• Red Chillies – 4
• oil – 3 tbsp
• Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
• Green chillies – 2, slit
• salt – to taste

Method:

  1. Cook green peas with enough water till soft. Drain and reserve the water. Mash the peas lightly.
  2. Soak tamarind in 1/2 cup of the water in which peas were cooked for about 15 minutes and extract the pulp.
  3. Dry roast both the Dals, curry leaves, chillies and mustard. Cool and powder them together.
  4. Heat oil in a Kadai. Add cumin seeds. When they splutter, add chillies. Fry for few seconds.
  5. Add the ground powder and tamarind and tamarind pulp. Simmer till the mixture is very thick.
  6. Add the peas and salt. Cook and stir till almost dry.
