
Ingredients:
• Apple 1 medium size
• For filling:
• Dates – 75 gm
• Green chilli 1
• dry Mango powder – 1 tbsp
• Chaat Masala – 1 tsp
• pepper powder – 1/2 tsp
• salt to taste
• For batter:
• Besan (chick peas flour) – 1 cup
• cornflour – 1/4 cup
• chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
• Ajwain (thymol seeds) a big pinch
• baking powder – 1/2 tsp
• oil to deep fry
• salt to taste
Method:
- Peel and core the apple.
- Cut into eight slices, length ways.
- Mince dates and chillies very finely.
- Mix with rest of the filling ingredients.
- Slit each slice of apple from one end, along its length, stopping just 1/4 cm away from the other end so that the two halves remain joined at one end.
- Stuff the filling between these slits of apple slices, carefully.
- Combine all the ingredients for batter together.
- Add enough water to form smooth, creamy batter.
- Heat oil for deep frying.
- Dip the apple slices in batter, holding the slits together at the open end and drop in hot oil.
- Fry till they turn golden brown.
- Drain on kitchen paper and serve hot with Chutney or ketchup.
