Ingredients:
• Rice – 1 cup
• Green Gram (Moong) Dal – 1 cup
• Coconut – 1/2
• Ghee – 1 tbsp
• Cashew nuts – 2 tbsp, broken into pieces
• Oil – 4 tbsp
• Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
• Cardamom – 4
• Cinnamon – 4 pieces
• Ginger – 1 tsp, chopped
• Green chillies – 6 to 8, chopped
• Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
• Water – 6 cups
• Sugar – 1 tbsp
• Raisins – 2 tbsp
• Salt to taste
Method:
- Wash the rice and dal and drain.
- Ease the flesh out of coconut and cut into small pieces.
- Heat ghee in a small frying pan and fry cashew nuts and coconut pieces till golden brown.
- Set aside.
- Heat oil in a thick bottomed vessel.
- Add cumin, cardamom and cinnamon.
- When cumin seeds crackle, add rice, dal, ginger and green chillies.
- Fry for 2-3 minutes.
- Add water, salt and sugar.
- Mix well.
- Add fried cashew nuts, coconut and raisins.
- When the water begins to boil, cover the vessel with a lid and lower the heat.
- Let the rice and dal cook till soft.
- Serve hot.
