Ingredients:

• Curry leaves – 1 cup
• Toor Dhal – 1 tbsp
• Red Chillies – 10
• Black Pepper – 2-3 tsp
• Jeera – 1 tsp
• Tamarind – size of a Lemon
• Jaggery grated – 2-3 tsp
• Mustard, Hing for seasoning
• Salt – to taste
• Gingili oil (preferably) or any other cooking oil – 3 tbsp

Method:

  1. Soak Tuvar dal in water for 1/2 hour.
  2. Separately soak tamarind also in water.
  3. Grind all the ingredients except the seasoning with as little water as possible along with the soaked dhal and tamarind.
  4. Now heat oil in a kadai, add mustard and hing and when it splutters, add the ground paste and fry till oil separates out from the chutney.
  5. Tips: This is very good with rice and ghee and also as an accompaniment for dosa or idli. This is given to mothers with newborns.
