Ingredients:

• broken matta Rice – 1 cup
• oil – 1 tbsp
• Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
• black gram (urad) dal – 3 tsp
• Fenugreek seeds – ¼ tsp
• crushed black pepper – ½ tsp
• water – 1.25 cup
• salt to taste

Method:

  1. Heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard.
  2. When it splutters add black gram dal and fenugreek.
  3. When the dal turns brown add pepper, water and salt.
  4. When the water starts boiling add rice.
  5. Lower the flame and cook stirring till the mixture forms a lump.
  6. When it is cool enough to handle, make lime size balls of the mixture, with a thumb in the center.
  7. Steam the dumpling for 15 minutes.
  8. Serve with chutney.
